Quantitative Biomarkers of Diffuse Liver Disease Fibrosis: Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) & Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI)
نویسنده
چکیده
Background Chronic liver diseases irrespective of etiology causes liver parenchymal loss and fibrosis. Continued liver damage and untreated liver fibrosis and leads to cirrhosis and its associated complications. Prognosis and management of chronic liver diseases greatly depend on the amount and progression of liver fibrosis. There is renewed interest in early detection and staging of liver fibrosis as antifibrotic drugs are available that can potentially decrease the degree of fibrosis leading to regression of the fibrosis and in the future there is potential for possible reversal of fibrosis.

Magnetic Resonance Elastography and Diffusion Weighted Imaging in the Evaluation of Hepatic Fibrosis in Chronic Hepatitis B
Background/Aims Comparison of the accuracy of magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) and diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) for the diagnosis of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). Methods In this retrospective analysis, we investigated 63 patients with CHB and liver fibrosis. DWI was performed with both breath-hold (DWI-BH) and free-breathing (DWI-FB) sequences (b=0, 500)...
متن کاملAssessment of Liver Fibrosis: Comparison of Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) and Diffusion-weighted Imaging (DWI)
INTRODUCTION: Hepatic fibrosis is a wound-healing response to multiple types of chronic liver disease or injury. Cirrhosis, the end-stage of liver fibrosis, is a major cause of death due to its association with hepatocellular carcinoma and complicated portal hypertension. Accurate discrimination of advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis from mild fibrosis in patients with chronic liver disease is esse...
متن کاملComparison of magnetic resonance elastography and diffusion-weighted imaging for staging hepatic fibrosis.
BACKGROUND To compare the diagnostic values of magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in staging hepatic fibrosis (HF) in an animal model. METHODS This study consisted of 44 rabbits served as HF group and 9 normal rabbits. HF group was divided into two subgroups: Group A (n = 32) and Group B (n = 12). Rabbits in Group B were served as a complementary group ...
متن کاملMagnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) of Liver Disease
MRE is a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based technology for non-invasively characterizing the biomechanical properties of tissues and may serve as a potential surrogate to invasive liver biopsies for diagnosing and staging liver fibrosis. MRE can be used to quantitatively image the direct consequence of liver fibrosisincreased stiffness of the hepatic tissue. MRE is performed following three...
